We’ve all seen them, the little drawings on the back of our shadows that give us “directions” as to how to apply. I’m telling you right here, right now, IGNORE IT. It’d be like getting a set of paints and flipping it over to have directions how to paint a picture. We all have different features, we all have different ideas and looks, we’re all creative. It’s nice to have an idea, but you shouldn’t look at the back, do as they say and then when it doesn’t work, go on to thinking that you’re doomed to never wear eye shadow again. That’s just not how it works.

Now, like I’ve stated before, I’m no expert here, okay? I merely adore all aspects of makeup and want to share my personal opinions on them with you. What you choose to do with the info is up to you! :)

For this little tiddly wink, I’m going to show you how Maybelline suggests you wear the Luminous Lights Opal Lights shadow from their Expert Eyes line, and how me, myself, I would choose to wear it.

All four of these shades are very soft and sheer. All but the "liner" have an opalescent softness to them.

The next two pictures are kind of horrifying for me in the sense that I basically look like I have nothing but mascara on my eyes. This kind of thing just doesn’t work for me!

What the directions suggest…

Now for my take on using this quad!

My overall opinion isn’t that I that I think that the people who make these directions wrong, I just don’t think it’s suited for the majority of the population. There are so few colors that you should put from your lid to your brow. Personally, for my eyes, I look like I should be standing on a corner asking people if they’re looking for a good time. And no liner? Please. I guarantee you, if I were to wear that first look to work, everyone would ask what was wrong and if I had been crying. This isn’t to say that everyone needs liner by any means either! It’s just that your average liner brush can do absolutely incredible wonders for your eyes! Dramatic, smoky, simple, that little edged brush is a miracle! Dip it in your shadow and wiggle along your lash line, you’ll be amazed at how much better your eyes (and lashes!) look just from that simple step.

Truth be told, there are a lot of things you can do with this quad. Obviously the one I posted was very quick and basic, but you should definitely play around for yourself! For it’s best use, I think it’d make for a great set of highlighters or layered over other shadows to mix up shades!

Well, I do have to say that this was a fun post to do! It wasn’t anything crazy or unusual, but we’re hopefully en route to making more posts like this just for fun! What do you think?
