Well I tried another “3D mani” annnnnnnd…I’m not impressed. Yeesh. Today was just not my day for Ciate products! I wanted to test and review their Very ColourFoil Manicure but the glue they provided was totally dried up! I decided to give the Velvet Manicure a whirl.

Admittedly, yes, the velvet manicure idea kinda weirds me out as I feel like the velvet would clump up and look funny the second it gets wet – and lotion? Oh forget it!

Alright, so this is how it goes down:

  • Paint one coat of Cabaret nail polish, let dry.
  • Working on one nail at a time, put your second coat on and immediately sprinkle the purple velvet powder over your wet nail.
  • Shake and tap the container of velvet powder like you’re going completely berserk! It takes quite a bit of effort for it really to start flowing, you need to get a thick coat.
  • Use the little brush provided to swipe the excess off from around your nail.
  • Let dry 10-15 minutes.

Knowing that I was going to be wearing this manicure for over two days, I decided that I would give it a test run as an accent nail. Good thing I did because this experience was less than stellar.

It’s on the ring finger, duh.

I feel like it looks like it's smudged more than anything.

This whole “3D manicure” trend is great for people who do absolutely nothing with their hands – EVER. You can go out and wear things like this for a night but the second you have to wash your hands or pick anything up, the jig is up! Have fun with designs, glitter and that kind of stuff – anything that has to hold tight to your nail like this is tricky and rarely lasts.
