BB Creams, Are They Worth It?
Recently, one of our loyal followers asked for information on the growing BB Cream craze. I will gladly weigh in on this trend! In a quick answer, I am not a fan. If you want more information, keep on reading!

(L-R) L’Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB, Maybelline Dream Fresh BB, Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector
Bit of BB Background: BB creams have been in existence for years but only have become new and booming in the US. BB stands for beauty balm, blemish balm or blemish base. They boast multiple benefits of things like smoothing, hydrating, brightening, evening, protection, and softer, sheer coverage. Basically, it’s a tinted moisturizer. It’s quick and simple, and that’s something most women are looking for.
My opinion: For myself personally, BB stands for blemish builder. I have tried 3 different BB creams and have had zero luck with any of them. For one, my face is oily, and throwing this hydrating, brightening booster on my face just makes me look like I’ve dunked my face in a deep fat fryer! Thanks to my dream team, my face has cleared up significantly from what it used to be (more on that in a later post!) but all of these BB creams gave me blemishes that were so stubborn and unsightly! There was no other reason that I would be breaking out like I was, it was most definitely the BB cream. A friend was complaining about sudden stubborn breakouts so I asked what she was using, she too, was using a BB cream.
It’s not to say that this isn’t a product that won’t work for you. People with dry skin may have great luck with this. I know that a lot of women with more mature skin happen to be jumping on this BB bandwagon and loving every minute of it! But, again, for myself personally, I’m steering clear of any and every BB cream any brand has to offer.

Yeah, I won’t be trying this. My oily skin doesn’t need any added moisture!
Thanks for the video, I am super oily as well but suffer from adult acne but am now seineg a derm and I now love my skin. I use panoxyl soap to wash and then I tone with nuetrogena and apply my sunscreen for daytime , but nights I keep it way simple..wash same soap ,tone and apply retinol and am done. if am getting a break out, time of the month I apply the Mario badscue drying lotion. zit gone. so am comfy. oh daytime I use boots 7 shine free mattifying lotion.
After ditching foundation and being fairly blemish free for a year, I tried a sample of Maybelline BB Cream and, no shock, broke out two days later
Response to Torps comment- Oil and moisture are different things. Oily skin does in fact need moisture. Oily skin tends to over produce sebum to compensate for dryness. I have oily skin and I always use a moisturizer before bed and before I put my daily makeup on. Granted, it is a LIGHT moisturizer. Finding the RIGHT moisturizer is tricky with oily skin. BB creams are way too “hydrating” for oily and acne prone skin though.
So, I bought a BB cream by Garnier (the one you swatched) about a year ago. Yeah, not for me. It’s supposably for “light” skin but it’s still too dark for me. I have to blend it way into my neck. It’s also way to shiny for my face and I would put powder on it. I found the fragrance SUPER strong and irritating to smell all day. I sometimes would wear it on my day off work when I needed to run errands and didn’t want to spend 20 mins painting my face. I never use it anymore because I have my MAC anti-redness primer that evens out my face pretty damn good without foundation. BB cream is probably my worse makeup purchase to date.
Wow. Sorry for the long comment. I love talking makeup! LOL
